Yes, our Windows backup software utilizes Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) to perform backups of open files on the machines NovaStor products are installed on.

Which storage devices are available for the backup?

With our NovaStor DataCenter backup and restore software, you can perform backups on the storage of your choice: from NAS, SAN and tape to the cloud.

What compression rate can I expect?

Typical compression for Windows backup job is 1.5:1 assuming data can be compressed, or about the same you would see by zipping up a file or folder.

Is data deduplication possible?

The potential space savings achievable through data deduplication are dependent on the specific data set or workload in question. In the case of data sets with a high degree of duplication, optimization rates of up to 95% or a 20-fold reduction in memory usage can be attained.

Can I backup to the cloud?

Yes, NovaStor offers Windows server cloud backup by integrating directly with Amazon S3, but we can also target cloud storage locations on your computer and offer a NovaStor hosted cloud storage option.
